Get IDP Credit
Intern architects can receive IDP credit for any AIA approved Continuing Education courses they complete. Any AIA approved course is eligible for supplemental experience credit. In addition, the Emerging Professional's Companion is a free online resource that allows interns to gain IDP credit regardless of employment status. Over 1,600 hours of IDP credit can be gained through the EPC, including core and supplemental credit.
Now that you've received your professional architecture degree, you're that much closer to calling yourself an architect. In most states, intern architects can work simultaneously on IDP hours and take the Architect Registration Examination (ARE). If you're ready to become an ARE Candidate, verify your state's requirements for achitectural licensure before you begin taking the ARE divisions.
New graduates of NAAB-accredited programs of architecture receive free AIA Associate membership for up to 18 months following graduation. In addition, new AIA members receive complimentary registration for the AIA 2014 National Convention and Design Exposition in Chicago, June 26-28.
Local AIA Components often have Emerging Professional groups that offer mentoring programs, ARE study sessions, and networking for future career opportunities. Find your local component. In addition, the AIA is always in need of volunteers at the local, state, and national level. Volunteering has the potential to impact the profession, and your career path.
