Conference Summary
This year’s 2010 Grassroots Annual Leadership and Legislative Conference will be an event to be remembered! Continuing the Grassroots tradition, this year’s conference will provide component presidents and president-elect, component executives and component staff, members of the national board of directors, member communities and member group leaders, emerging professionals, AIA national staff and other member groups with opportunities for continuing education, networking, advocacy, celebrations, leadership skills development and knowledge sharing among members and groups within the AIA family.
Significant Innovations for 2010
The Grassroots Ad Hoc Committee, led by 2011 President-elect and Grassroots Chair Clark Manus, FAIA, is working diligently to design a more information rich and inspirational conference that will meet the special leadership needs of the AIA’s member groups. Significant innovations underway include:
• A More Focused and Compact Schedule. The conference will commence on Wednesday, February 3rd with Preconference Workshops in the morning and the Opening General Session in the evening. The conference will officially end on Friday, February 5th after the evening event.
• More Opportunities to Network. AIA national committee meetings and any other member group meeting should be scheduled only on Tuesday, February 2nd or Saturday, February 6th.
• A More Inclusive Conference. By creatively using the tools of social media, the AIA’s entire membership will be able to connect with key events and to view the General Sessions shortly after the event.
• A Newcomers Orientation Breakfast Meeting Featuring the 2011 AIA Leadership Team. Newcomers, presidents-elect, advisory chairs, AIA national committee representatives and members will explore the evolving roles and responsibilities of AIA leaders in strengthening the professional community that works on behalf of its members.
• Spreading the Wealth of the Awards Celebration. Award recipients will be acknowledged throughout the Conference as inspirational case studies of innovation and achievement.
• Upfront Information to Help Attendees Make Program Choices. The Thursday afternoon General Session will offer a sneak preview of Friday’s workshops.
AIA leaders will participate in numerous networking activities with peers; advocate the AIA’s legislative agenda on Capitol Hill; share your experiences and challenges through session; articulate your ideas and positions during the Member Congress; and more.
