Lucas Tryggestad, AIA | Notes of Interest

Lucas’s ability to effectively manage very large projects, combined with his active academic and community involvement, reveals his commitment and value to the profession.

As an associate director and studio head for SOM, Lucas has led projects all over the world. His technical leadership on projects is a tremendous asset to the firm, and his varied background provides clients with a highly sophisticated and holistic approach. His dedication to advancing sustainable goals for architecture and society extends to some of the most innovative environmental programs now underway. He is the leader in developing a new methodology to define metrics for carbon reduction, energy efficiency, water conservation, human comfort, and waste. The process is integrating high-performance design into every project, developing a new standard for sustainable design.

He has a passion for furthering the profession of architecture and is especially committed to the sustainable future of Chicago, which is evident in his leadership role with Retrofit Chicago’s Commercial Building Initiative, a voluntary leadership program to increase energy efficiency in commercial buildings and reduce energy use by 20 percent within the next five years.
