      For immediate release:
      Washington, D.C. – July 10, 2013 –
The American Institute of Architects (AIA) today announced its sponsorship of the first Architecture Service Trade Mission to Brazil. The trade mission will take place on October 6-10.

The trade mission comes as Brazil plans to enter the global limelight in preparation for the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympic Games, when there is expected to be a heightened demand for infrastructure projects. With this in mind, the trade mission’s goal is to introduce U.S. firms to the rapidly growing Brazilian market and Brazilian partners.

“This trade mission represents another exceptional opportunity to expand the reach of architectural talent around the globe,” said AIA President Mickey Jacob, FAIA. “Our profession represents a major economic tool for boosting U.S. exports and creating jobs here in the United States.”

The mission will target sectors with high potential for U.S. exporters: master planning including regional design and city planning, and port re-development; hospitals and other related health care facilities; airports, port development and other transportation infrastructure; mixed-use projects; and a wide range of education institutions.

The mission will visit Rio de Janeiro and Recife, where participants will have market briefings, meetings with government and industry officials, matchmaking meetings, and other opportunities for networking. These opportunities will afford participants market exposure and access to key decision makers in both the private and public sectors. It will also serve as a chance to meet with Brazilian architecture trade associations, such as ASBEA and CAU.

The mission, a joint venture with the International Trade Administration, supports President Obama’s National Export Initiative (NEI) and his goal of doubling U.S. exports by the end of 2014. The AIA and U.S. Department of Commerce have previously sponsored similar successful trade missions to India in 2012 and to Sri Lanka earlier this year. For more information, visit: or
