New AIA membership opportunities for architects outside of United States
AIA and its International Chapter have announced a globally inclusive pricing model for International Associate members.

WASHINGTON – March 6, 2025 – The American Institute of Architects (AIA) and its AIA International Chapter have announced a globally inclusive pricing model for International Associate members.
The AIA International chapter was formed in 2012 and encompasses all areas outside the US. It is the broadest geographical AIA chapter, providing a collaborative leadership platform to empower members and encourage global success. AIA International includes seven chapters and five sections across the globe.
AIA fosters connections that amplify architecture’s power to create lasting solutions for people and the planet, ensuring the profession thrives and drives progress. These connections open doors for design professionals, offering access to vital member benefits and resources in areas that might otherwise lack professional support.
Based on the World Bank’s economic income rankings, AIA’s new approach ensures International Associate members based outside high income countries can access the benefits of AIA membership at rates aligned with local economic conditions.
Additionally, the AIA International chapter has created five new sections—AIA Latin America, AIA South Korea, AIA Southeast Asia, AIA Sub-Saharan Africa, and AIA Taipei—to create even more opportunities for international members to connect with a local AIA design community.
“AIA exists to protect and serve architects and design professionals”, said Yew Kee Cheong, FAIA, President, AIA International. “This change makes AIA membership more open and accessible, and will help design professionals in every corner of the globe to gain access to AIA resources at a price aligned with their region.”
