College of Fellows
Elevating architects who exemplify architectural excellence.
AIA's highest membership honor
AIA Fellows are recognized for their exceptional work and contributions to architecture and society. Founded in 1952, the AIA College of Fellows seeks to stimulate a sharing of interests among Fellows, promote the purposes of AIA, advance the profession of architecture, mentor young architects, and be of ever-increasing service to society. Less than 3% of AIA members hold the prestigious FAIA designation.
Executive Committee
The Executive Committee of the College of Fellows connects Fellows with one another and with the Institute by creating programs and communications that foster collaboration and provide opportunities for sharing interests among Fellows.

Meet the newest inductees
Each year when candidates apply to be Fellows, the jury considers how they have shown distinction in the context of their object, in relation to AIA's values, and whether their work has had a ripple effect.
The objects of nomination are essentially the award categories candidates apply under, and each object has specific criteria and requirements associated with it. Learn more about the object categories.

Want to join the College of Fellows?
Architects who have made significant contributions to the profession and society and who exemplify architectural excellence can apply for Fellowship.
Additional opportunities
The 2025 AIA College of Fellows Component Grants will focus on Mentorship. Grants will be provided to AIA Components for programs that enhance the development of emerging architects and welcome others into the profession.
We encourage new directions in mentorship, enhancement of existing programs, and outreach to currently underrepresented groups, Proposed programs can be directed to a range of participants, from K-12 students to professionals seeking Fellowship. We encourage collaborative programs between local AIA components and schools, colleges, community groups, and professional firms. We believe that Fellows are a unique resource and can have an
important role in these programs.
Proposed programs should support the mission of the College and the College must be recognized in publicity and proposed outcomes. Grants of up to $8,000 will be made directly to the proposing AIA component.
The deadline for receipt of completed applications/proposals is February 11, 2025.

In 2000, the Chancellor of the College of Fellows, Robert A. Odermatt, FAIA, presented the first Spirit of Fellowship award to Leslie N. Boney Jr., FAIA, for his outstanding service and commitment to the College. Later that same year, the Executive Committee of the College voted to name the award after the first recipient, and thus it became known as the Leslie N. Boney Spirit of Fellowship Award. The award recognizes continuous, exceptional service and dedication to the College.
The Latrobe Prize is a biennial $100,000 award from the AIA College of Fellows to support a two-year program of research selected by jury review. The grant, named for architect Benjamin Henry Latrobe, is awarded for research leading to significant advances in the architecture profession.
