Corey Squire, AIA, is an architect, author, and sustainability strategist who has redefined what good design means for the architectural profession. As Associate Principal and Director of Sustainability at Bora Architecture & Interiors, and through his consulting practice, Dept. of Sustainability, Squire has catalyzed transformative change in how firms embed climate action, equity, and health into the design process.
A driving force behind the AIA Framework for Design Excellence, Squire co-created the toolkit that now serves as the national standard for defining design excellence. His subsequent development of the Common App and Super Spreadsheet introduced performance-based rigor to awards programs across more than 30 AIA components, advancing the alignment of values and recognition throughout the profession.
In practice, Squire has led sustainability efforts at three acclaimed architecture firms—Eskew+Dumez+Ripple, Lake|Flato, and Bora—contributing to six AIA COTE Top Ten Award-winning projects and helping usher in Living Building Challenge-certified and net-zero designs. He’s also authored People, Planet, Design, a book that distills his experience into a practical guide now used by firms and educators alike to reshape architectural thinking.
Beyond design leadership, Squire is a nationally sought-after speaker and mentor. He has delivered over 100 lectures, facilitated more than 60 sustainability workshops, and supported sustainability leaders across the country in transforming their firm cultures and project portfolios. His mentorship and message—that sustainable design is not an option but a foundation—continue to elevate emerging professionals and seasoned leaders alike.
Through each initiative, Squire empowers the architectural community to act boldly, aligning design excellence with environmental stewardship and social equity. His work is reshaping the discipline from the inside out—redefining what’s possible, and ensuring that sustainability becomes a standard, not an exception.
