Shannon Gathings, AIA, is a recipient of the 2023 Young Architects Award for her leadership role in AIA Mississippi and her impact on community reinvestment throughout the state.

    Shannon served as project architect for the Selah House, a custom residence in Chester County, PA. She worked closely with the skilled craftsmen to detail the artful woodwork and beautifully executed construction.

    Shannon served as project manager for the Reserves at Gray Park, a project with unique context and innovative aspirations for affordable housing. Shannon led the team toward efficient and economical design from site layout to construction.

    Shannon served as the project manager for all phases of the Ellen Harris Center renovation—from performing early facility assessments and preparing renderings for principal fundraising, through design and construction.

    Shannon served in multiple capacities at AIA Mississippi, serving as director, secretary/treasurer, second vice-president, president-elect, and ultimately 2018 president, becoming the first associate and the first black woman to serve in this capacity in the AIA Mississippi chapter.
