Cyrus Dahmubed, Assoc. AIA, is a Boston-based design researcher and educator whose work bridges community storytelling, inclusive urbanism, and mentorship to advance justice, equity, and representation in architecture.

Cyrus Dahmubed, Assoc. AIA, is a Boston-based design researcher, educator, and community builder committed to advancing equity, justice, and inclusion through architecture. As Director of Research at Utile, Cyrus leads projects that blend urban design with community storytelling, including his award-winning work on environmental justice in housing and the inclusive design of queer spaces. He also co-directs Utile’s grassroots JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion) initiative, transforming firm culture and design output through anti-racist frameworks.
Cyrus amplifies emerging voices through mentorship, teaching, and public programming. He teaches at the Boston Architectural College and has served as an invited critic at Harvard, Northeastern, and the BAC. His commitment to mentorship extends from professional talks to elementary classrooms, with programs coordinated through NOMA, BSA, and Utile’s own community platform, Utile University.
A tireless advocate for representation and dialogue, Cyrus has presented nationally and internationally—from NOMA and AIA conferences to AMPS London—while fostering local networks through Out in Design and the Boston Children’s Chorus, where he serves as Governance Chair. His publications, including a transformative editorship of AIAS’s CRIT journal, reflect his belief in design as cultural commentary.
